Hi!

After the Surface meeting in Oslo in April (see wiki here: hirlam.org/trac/wiki/HarmonieWorkingWeek/Surface201604) a quite intense activity started in the snow subgroup wiki page (see here: hirlam.org/trac/wiki/HarmonieWorkingWeek...w_assimilation_plans).

Until now Patrick and Laura has added material and comments. Please take a look! There are stuff to discuss. Please add to the wiki and/or discuss through this forum since all people interested then can follow at any time. But, to follow you should subscribe to the Surface development category.

Edited a bit the snow discussion in wiki. The main thing to suggest: SWE could be compared with HSAF SWE, snow fraction over ground with HSAF SE and total albedo with LSAF albedo. All the rest of the related fields found in ICMSHHARM.sfx files and PGD (ssostd) could be used as additional information. Albedo really used by the model's radiation parametrizations can best been derived from the accumulated net and downwelling SW radiation in the atmospheric ICMSHHARM files. It could be compared how close it is to the grid-scale total albedo (84-105-0) found in the sfx files. In addition it should be ensured that the (bare land and) vegetation roughness enter to the sfx files with reasonable grib numbers at least in the cy40h1 systems, for the older it may be late.
