TOPIC: harmonEPS error in gl_bd using MARS

harmonEPS error in gl_bd using MARS 5 months 1 week ago #2344

I'm currently having troubles with gl_bd failing for the perturbed ensemble members in experiments that use MARS for retrieving the boundary data.

I ran two experiments with boundary data from MARS, one for a case with a date of 1987-02-24, and another one with a date of 2017-06-04. Both on the AROME Arctic domain using harmonEPS-40h1.1.1 .
The deterministic runs did finish without further problems.

I then tried to run the 2017-06-04 case as an ensemble with 10 members. There the runs for members 1-10 fail during gl_bd

Has anybody experienced similar behavior or knows where the problem might be?

Hi,

I think the output:

forrtl: severe (41): insufficient virtual memory

points to what the problem is. Perturbed members need more memory because
gl_bd applies also SLAF to the boundary files, thus needing two model states from the host instead of one.
Try to increase the memory request for gl_bd in Env_submit.

Just to be sure.

The memory request is done via
$job_list{'gl_bd'}{'ZKMP_STACKSIZE'} = 'export KMP_STACKSIZE=128m';

or is it another variable?
