TOPIC: SPG Pattern generator

SPG Pattern generator 1 year 9 months ago #2066

Hi all,

I wanted to test the SPG SPPT pattern generator but my experiment is failing in the first forecast step with an error message "TOO BIG NSUBSTEPS" which is coming from line 818 of spectral_arp_mod.F90.
I'm using the default SPG settings in my config_exp.h, i.e.
LSPG_SDT='.TRUE.'
SPGQ_SDT=0.5
SPGADTMIN_SDT=0.15
SPGADTMAX_SDT=3.0

Has anyone successfully tested the SPG pattern generator/come across this issue before? If so, any suggestions as to how to get around this issue would be most welcome!

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan,

I looked into your experiment and found that in your NAMSPSDT namelist you have

SPGLAMBDA_SDT=-999.0,

I think this is the result of a leading space in the SPG_param.sh file produced by the Prepare_spg task:
hlam@cca-login4:/scratch/ms/ie/duah/hm_home/harmoneps_40h1_sppt_spg_donegal_rain/climate/mbr000> cat SPG_param.sh
SPGLAMBDA_SDT= 1.0122
SPGMU_SDT=0.60575E-04
SPGSIGMA_SDT=0.17651E-08

To continue I suggest you remove the space after = for SPGLAMBDA_SDT (for all members). In the meantime I will try to correct this bug/weakness in the system.

That's great, thanks very much Ole.

All seems to be working now.

All the best,
