TOPIC: Dissapearing executables files at /bin

Dissapearing executables files at /bin 1 year 9 months ago #2048

Hello,

I have a simulation at ECMWF which has stopped at Climate task. The reason is that the executable file 'lfitools' is not found at /bin at $SCRATCH/my_experiment/ (the complete path is /scratch/ms/es/sp5/hm_home/clim_38h1_knmi_1/bin/ )

In that folder I have only this files:

MASTERODB
domain_prop_grib_api
gl_grib_api
obsextr

I think I have seen before several more files in this directory. They seem to have delete for some reason while the model was running (?). The previous month run OK, I don't know what happened.

I suppose that I have to build again the code but I don't want to make a cold start, instead I would like to continue the integration from 1997110100 which is the following month to simulate.

Is it possible to compile without beginning from scratch?.

Thank you very much!

Cheers!

Juan Carlos.

Hi,

All files on the SCRATCH disk are removed after a while.

One solution for you now is to make an new experiment where you only compile, that is harmonie install instead of harmonie start. Place your binaries on the PERM disk instead and point your binaries to that path with BINDIR in sms/config_exp.h.

Then submit your initRun in mSMS, and try to submit your task that failed.

Cheers

Hi Juan Carlos,

at the ECMWF files on the cca SCRATCH are cleaned after some time (few weeks). You can simply continue the run and rebuild with something like
Harmonie continue DTGEND=2010010100 BUILD=yes

The BUILD=yes is only required if you have BUILD set to no in sms/config_exp.h.
To prevent cleaning of the binaries and scripts you could consider to put your HM_LIB on the PERM partition, if you have enough space left.

good luck,

Bert
