Schedule: 3rd September 2021 14:30 - 17:30 BST
Location: Online via BlueJeans (link and programme on ESCAPE-2 workshop website)

ESCAPE-2, with strong involvement of ECMWF (in the context of its Scalability programme efforts), but also including e.g. RMI, DMI, MeteoSwiss and several hardware providers) has been focussing on a variety of aspects which need to be tackled to handle the computational challenges ahead of us. The outcomes will no doubt be very relevant for e.g. ACCORD's SPTR activities (Strategic Programme on TRansversal software developments).

43rd EWGLAM - 28th SRNWP Meeting
will be held as a fully virtual meeting: 27 September - 1 October 2021.
See for more details and registration the SRNWP-annual 2021 meetings page
Deadline for registration: 31 August 2021.
The EWGLAM meeting generally offers a highly interesting platform for lively exchange and open discussion of recent LAM research efforts, results, and challenges. You are therefore encouraged to participate in this meeting, if possible, and hopefully also send in contributions to the various sessions within the programme.
The special subject this year will be "Application of machine learning to actual problems in NWP". Review talks will focus on this special topic, however, it is very welcome that the special topic is also tackled by one or more speakers in the thematic sessions as well.

When the ACCORD management group was formed in the first quarter of 2021, two HIRLAM management group members, Roger Randriamampianina and Patrick Samuelsson, transferred to the ACCORD management group. Also, Sander Tijm accepted a new position as Operations manager for UWC-West. In April-June therefore a selection process has taken place to find replacements for these three colleagues in the HIRLAM management group. The HIRLAM Council, at there meeting on 30 June 2021, confirmed the appointment of three new HIRLAM project leaders:
- Emily Gleeson as project leader Physics parametrizations
- Ekatherina Kurzeneva as project leader Surface analysis and modelling
- Magnus Lindskog as project leader Data assimilation and use of observations
We wish Emily, Katya and Magnus all the best in their new functions.
